A Meditation: On Genesis 34:1 // Keeping Vain Curiosities At Check //

by Matheus Yuhlung

“Now Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to see the women of the land” – Genesis 34:1

Is the beauty of the world more beautiful than the beauty of Christ and His coming kingdom? Should we Christians get enamoured by the ways of this wicked world? Never! The world and all its pleasures were meant to wither away like the grasses of the field.

The unfortunate event that occurred with Dinah is probably the first instance of rape recorded in the Bible. And if you ask, what leaded to such tragic incident? It is the Discontentment with godly providence and the entertainment of vain curiosity regarding the ways of the ungodly – wicked people.

Let us take note and great care to what incites the mind and the way our hearts take little steps towards. Let the word of God measure every good thing that can be beneficial or not in our lives; for we were not called to walk by sight but by faith – least our trivial interests leads us to events that could violate the integrity of our personhood.
