A Meditation: On Genesis 14:21-23 // No Price For Generosity //

by Matheus Yuhlung

“And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself. And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth, That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich” – Genesis 14:21-23

Here is a great reminder for Christians not to let the ungodly put a price on our generosity towards them. Abram had his faith on Jehovah who is also known as Elohim Ozer Li which means God My Helper. The war that he had won; he was aware that it was not by his strength but through the one who had strengthened him and so if the grace he received was an unmerited one – he had no right to put a price and sell it to another.

Neither did he also covet worldly wealth as his outlook towards life was of a sojourner and he had all he required for his journey; while the ones he’d need in the future, he had faith that Jehovah would provide.

In this age; when the mantra people are living with is that of self establishment let us not forget to establish our souls on the solid rock that Christ is. And as we receive His unmerited grace let us not forget to share it with the world without any price tags.
