A Meditation: On Genesis 3:22 // Lost gods //
by Matheus Yuhlung
‘Then the LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever—”’ – Genesis 3:22
Just one bite at the fruit of the tree of knowledge of the good and evil – man completely lost his privileges of accessing the tree of life. How unfortunate. In this life we were meant to be tempted. And there is absolutely no sin in getting tempted – the problem really is: giving into that temptation.
That old maxim that says – birds will fly over your head but ultimately it is your decision to let them make a nest on your head; is aptly applicable.
Whenever you are tempted – keep in mind the length of the distance you’d be dragged away from the realm of God’s grace. And really is that necessary? Or with whatever you are getting tempted with, really give you more pleasure than the one Our Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ has to offer? Choose wisely or get mocked of being like gods – who only wander through earth feeling miserable considering what they’ve lost.
