A Meditation: On Genesis 3:9 // Where Art Thou //

by Matheus Yuhlung

And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? – Genesis 3:9 (KJV)

Where art thou? A question that introduced Adam to what terror is – was met with much guilt and later with condemnation; where prior to this was only one emotion that prevailed and that was of joy.

Often times we fail to see our privileges and look for more supplies as if the divine providence was not enough. Like a pessimist who is ungrateful for having a glass filled half way complains of it being half empty; Adam didn’t need what the tree of knowledge was to provide him – yet he ate its fruit.

And the streak of that failure has reign till today. Hence the voice that searched the Garden of Eden for Adam still searches us. If in any day – in the bleak accent of your consciousness you hear the father calling Where art thou? Dearly beloved feel free to greet it as it no longer confronts us with a weight of condemnation but with the joy of resurrection through the blood of our Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ.
