A Meditation: On Psalm 119:96 // His Commandments Are Exceedingly Broad //

by Matheus Yuhlung

“I have seen an end of all perfection: but thy commandment is exceeding broad” – Psalm 119:96

Once my teacher advised me to never vehemently support a philosophy – as though how convincing it might sound it loses its charm as soon as it is put forth in an empirical expression; all philosophies are only perfect ideally. It was something very unfitting for a philosophy teacher to have said that but I realized without a doubt that it was true.

David confessed that he was sinful ever since he was conceived in his mother’s womb. Since sin implies imperfection; it would mean that we are not only imperfect now but we were never perfect in the first place (except for Adam and Eve maybe). So the question that remains is – Can anything perfect come from an imperfect individual like you and me? Never! Perfection can only come from someone who himself is perfect.

Hence, let us wait on the Lord like a servant waits for his master’s hand to command, guard and feed him. For His commandments are not only perfect but are exceedingly broad as well.
